Start a War (Saint View Psychos #1) by Elle Thorpe

“Do you want some Goldfish crackers, Bliss?”

Those were the last words my brother said to me before he was shot execution style. A childhood code only he and I knew, and one that had a single, clear meaning behind it.

Run.

I’m not going anywhere. Not when his murderer is still out there.

To catch a killer, I put aside my life of money and luxury and take over the running of Psychos, a dive bar in the seedy underbelly of Saint View.

But Psychos delivers more than I ever could have bargained for and three men I never saw coming.

Nash, my brother’s best friend. Older and more experienced, he still remembers me as the neglected child he once saved.

War, heir to a biker gang throne and searching for the man who left his mother in a coma. Bonded over a common goal, he introduces me to a world of after-hours clubs, danger, and violence.

And Vincent, the quiet new guy nobody seems to see except me. He’s sweet and quirky, but there’s a darkness in him just waiting to be unleashed.

With every lie we uncover, every secret we expose, the danger mounts.

Until there’s only one thing we know for sure.

The killer is still out there.

And we’re his next targets.

I read all 3 of these books in one day! I’m still trying to decide how I feel about them because I’m a bit conflicted. Were they good reads? Yes. Would I recommend them to other readers? Without a doubt! But part me also feels like the characters were lacking depth in some areas. We learn a lot about them, yes, but I feel like we also don’t learn so much more. We learn very little about the characters pasts and families, except for Bliss’, and the 3 men only seem to think and breathe Bliss. I enjoy reading about heroes that are so in love with the heroine that they have tunnel vision for most other things but these guys took it to a whole other level. There was barely even a relationship discussion about Bliss being with all 3 of them – it was just kind of like, well this is what she wants so I guess we can all share her.

Did I enjoy the steamy love scenes? Of course I did! And I fell in love with all 3 of our heroes for very different reasons.

“Bliss allowed to come visit me now, dad?”
“It’s Daddy to you.”
War snorted. “It’s always the quiet ones.”

I absolutely loved the banter betwen Scythe and War. I loved the banter between Scythe and everyone, really. He was very frank and wasn’t afraid to be who and what he wanted to be. He was honestly my favorite of Bliss’ 3 men, even though he was a cold-blooded murderer. I loved how beneath his rock hard exterior he truly loved Bliss and just wanted her to be happy and he wasn’t going to give her up or their happiness for anyone. I enjoyed Vincent too but Scythe definitely holds a special place in my heart.

These 3 books are well worth the read, check it out for yourself! You won’t be disappointed in the series!

Make Me Yours (Bellamy Creek #2) by Melanie Harlow

He’s my brother’s best friend.

The hot single dad next door.

And one accidental sext later, my massive crush on him is no longer a secret.

It’s my own damn fault. I’m thirty years old, for heaven’s sake. I’m a kindergarten teacher and a (reasonably) responsible adult. I should know better than to get tipsy and draft a fake text listing all the dirty things I wish Officer Cole Mitchell would do to me.

I wasn’t supposed to hit send.

He wasn’t supposed to see it.

And he definitely wasn’t supposed to text back telling me to go on . . .

Because after that, things escalate quickly.

Cole is everything I’ve ever wanted. He’s sexy and protective. A devoted father to his little girl. A dedicated cop the whole town adores. The kind of guy you can trust to keep his hands to himself, even when you’re desperately hoping he won’t.

I’m not the girl he thought he’d end up with, but after all this time, I might finally get the chance to say the words I’ve always dreamed of . . . make me yours.

I did not read the first book in this series but I’m always a sucker for books where the hero is friends with the heroine’s brother so I wanted to give it a try.

I’m still undecided on a true rating for this book. I liked it, I enjoyed reading it, but i felt it needed a little bit more. I enjoyed the characters and loved our hero and heroine but we needed to understand them better. I also would have liked there to be more realistic timeliness and not so much instant love/relationships and such.

All that being said, I truly did enjoy this book and it was a good read!

Playing for Keeps (Hot Jocks Book 1) by Kendall Ryan

I’ve never been so stupid in my entire life.

My teammate’s incredibly sweet and gorgeous younger sister should have been off-limits, but my hockey stick didn’t get that memo.

After our team won the championship, and plenty of alcohol, our flirting turned physical and I took her to bed.

Shame sent her running the next morning from our catastrophic mistake. She thinks I don’t remember that night—but every detail is burned into my brain so deeply, I’ll never forget. The feel of her in my arms, the soft whimpers of pleasure I coaxed from her perfect lips…

And now I’ve spent three months trying to get her out of my head. Which has been futile, because I’m starting to understand she’s the only girl I’ll ever want.

I have one shot to show her I can be exactly what she needs, but Elise won’t be easily convinced.

That’s okay, because I’m good under pressure, and this time, I’m playing for keeps.

Elise-
“I’ve always been enamored with him, from his quiet confidence, to his dedication and hard work on the ice, to his hard won smiles and casual attitude.”

Justin-
“My hear starts to beat faster as she grins up at me. Well damn, I didn’t know I still had one of those.”

Elise and Justin have clearly has more than pseudo-sibling feelings for each other for years but even after their one night stand, they still take quite a bit of time to admit their feelings, which I enjoyed. I liked that they didn’t fall into insta-love with each other.

I liked this book but I did not love it. I enjoyed the characters and read this book over the course of a day but there was something missing from this book and I don’t know what it is. I just feel like I needed more from it- more emotion, more realism from the characters, more everything. I liked the summary of the book and I think I just expected more from it overall.

I don’t think I will be reading the next book in this series but I would be more than happy to check out another one of this authors books!

I absolutely loved this book and will definitely be rereading it again and again in the future. It had everything that a romance book could possibly have – humor, sex, a HEA, and lots of DRAMA!

If you are even pondering getting this book, just buy it now! It is so worth it! 🙂

Four Week FiancĂ© by Helen Cooper

What would you do if the hottest man on earth made you an offer you couldn’t refuse?

What if it was the offer of a lifetime? The sort of offer that would make you blush as he offered you whatever you wanted to make you accept. What if the offers were so spicy, so naughty, so scandalous that you wouldn’t even want to tell your best friend?

If you were me, you would say yes.

There are three things you should know.

His name is TJ Walker. He’s 28, hot as can be and he’s my brother’s best friend.

TJ asked me to be his fiance for four weeks.

I’m hoping to make the engagement real.

I know. I can’t believe it either. What am I thinking? There are so many things that could go wrong by accepting to be TJ’s four week fiance? But, I can’t stop thinking that there are also so many things that could go right.

The premise of this book made me preorder it and I was so excited to finally sit down and read it! However, I found the book lacking… a lot. There was almost no depth to the characters, at all. Nothing was really explained. It was obvious that TJ and Mila both really liked each other but held themselves back for so long because of Mila’s brother, Cody. That’s pretty much the only thing I understood in this book.

Its blatantly obvious that Cody likes Mila’s best friend Sally but he sleeps with that bimbo Barbie? What the heck? I know that guys aren’t always good about admitting they really like someone, etc, but what Cody did was plain wrong.

And the end was even more of a mystery! TJ’s lifestyle and his fathers plans, none of it sounds good and I’m not sure I’ll be reading the next book to find out.

All of that being said, I did enjoy the playful banter between Mila and TJ – I thought they were really cute together and I can definitely see them ending up together, officially. I loved Mila’s Nonno, what a good grandfather! And Sally, my heart bleeds for her – I hope she gets her own story.

Overall, this wasn’t a horrible book but I felt that it could have been a lot better if was longer and the story was more fleshed out.

A Perfect Ten (Forbidden Men #5) by Linda Kage

Let your hair down, Caroline, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.

I know I’ve closed myself off in a major way over the past year, ever since “the incident” where I messed up my life completely. It’s past time I try to live again or just give up altogether. But this is quite possibly the craziest thing I’ve ever done. In a last ditch effort to invigorate myself, I’m standing outside Oren Tenning’s bedroom, I just peeled off the sexiest pair of underwear I own, and my hand is already raised to knock. My brother would disown me for doing anything with his best friend, and he’d probably kill Oren. But if I play my cards right, no one will ever know about this. Not even Ten.

Maybe after tonight, I’ll finally get over this stupid, irrational crush I hate having on the biggest jerk I’ve ever met. Or maybe I’ll just end up falling for him even harder. Maybe I’ll discover there’s so much more to my crude, carefree hunk than meets the eye.

This book was so much better than I thought it would be! I’m not going to lie, as much as I love Ten, I was worried about reading his book due to his man-whore ways. Boy, was I worried for nothing!

Ten did a complete 180 when it came to Caroline – he loved her so fiercely and changed everything about his lifestyle for her, without question mind you. He wanted to be with her and once they were finally on the same page that was it – they were together. When they moved in together he didn’t have any regrets or second thoughts, it was natural for him. And, of course, who doesn’t love his comments? I love his humor.

I absolutely loved this story, I had been waiting for it for so long since I was interested to see how it would play out. Ever since I read Noel Gamble’s book I knew this couple would eventually be together. And Caroline? She was one of my favorite heroines of all time. She pushed past her comfort zone and just went for her man, She knew they were meant to be together and she didn’t let any one or any thing get in her way. You go girl!

What I didn’t like about this book: Noel’s reaction to Caroline and Ten’s relationship. Not cool. I don’t want to spoil things for any one but he could have been so much more supportive. On the other hand, he’s her older brother who basically raised her so I can understand his protectiveness. But, I still have to defend my boy Ten!

I loved this entire series so far and I would highly recommend all of these books. But, in the event that you are unable to get your hands on all of the books you must read A Perfect Ten and Be My Hero (Ten and Pick, respectively). Pick is a must read though – oh, how I love Pick.
